Does Earth Day have you wondering what you can do to make a positive impact on our environment? Worrisome news reports can overwhelm but there are easy ways you can help the planet. One is walking places.

At Scout Cart® we are committed to making walking comfortable. We think people want to walk to and from places (like the market, hardware store, cleaners and library) but need a way to transport their things. The Scout Cart® is the tool to make errand day on foot easy.

Choosing to walk instead of drive helps reduce carbon emissions. That’s something to feel good about, not to mention the health benefits of a good walk. Using baskets or cloth bags instead of paper or plastic bags helps the environment too. It doesn’t sound like much but little changes can really add up over time.

Earth Day got its start after a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in 1969. People were already concerned about worsening water and air pollution when the spill occurred. Gaylord Nelson, then a Wisconsin Senator, proposed Earth Day and urged people to actively do things to protect the planet. Less than a year later the Environmental Protection Agency was created. Kudos to Nelson and the people who supported his proposal!

This year, Earth Day will be celebrated in 184 countries by hundreds of millions of people, according to Earth Day Network. The focus will be on clean energy and global warming.

In addition to walking more, there are lots of other things you can do on Earth Day to help improve the environment. Plant a few saplings. Turn off the lights in your house. Take shorter showers. Take the pledge to stop using disposable plastic. Go for a walk in the woods to appreciate nature. Remembering, doing these things adds up. Enjoy your Earth Day!
